OUR STORY AND THE WHY OF LONG-TERM ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT

OUR STORY

Forge Athletics and Recreation is being created to meet the combined passions for athletics, the need for focused long-term athletic development, and the demand for a facility and programs for athletes in Midlothian, TX and the surrounding areas. What began as a multi-year dream of developing a values-driven, purpose-filled, and passion-fueled organization has now come to fruition with the establishment of Forge Athletics and Recreation!

We are a faith forward organization that seeks to fulfill the following objectives in the holistic development of our athletes:

  • Objectives:

    • Prioritize character development over everything, emphasizing discipline as a pathway to positive habit formation and transformational developmental experiences.

    • Provide quality athletic facilities and programming for all phases of athletic development from the earliest stages of human movement to our forever athletes in an adult population.

    • Foster a positive environment of development, not just elite competition for athletes of all ages.

    • Promote physical activity, character development, and skill development through sport and recreational activities for athletes and participants of all ages.

    • Create educational opportunities for athletes, parents, and coaches to maximize the holistic development of athletes and participants.

WHY LONG-TERM ATHLETIC DEVELOPMENT (LTAD)?

In the context of long-term athletic development (LTAD), the word "forge" can be related to the idea of building and shaping an athlete's skills, abilities, and character over time. Here are a few ways in which we desire to help FORGE your youth athlete in their athletic development:

  1. Skill Development: Coaches and trainers work to forge athletes by developing their skills through structured training programs, coaching methodologies, and practice sessions. This forging process involves gradually honing and refining skills to reach higher levels of proficiency.

  2. Physical Development: LTAD focuses on the progressive development of physical attributes such as strength, speed, endurance, flexibility, and agility. Through consistent training and conditioning, athletes' bodies are forged into stronger, more resilient forms capable of meeting the demands of their sport.

  3. Mental Toughness: Athletes undergo mental forging as they learn to handle pressure, setbacks, and challenges inherent in sports. This includes developing resilience, focus, determination, and the ability to bounce back from failures or disappointments.

  4. Character Building: LTAD is not just about physical and skill development but also about shaping athletes' character traits such as discipline, perseverance, sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership. These qualities are forged through experiences, mentorship, and positive reinforcement within the athletic development pathway.

  5. Long-Term Progress: The forging process in LTAD emphasizes the long-term journey of growth and improvement rather than short-term gains. It involves setting goals, working consistently towards them, and adapting training strategies to support sustainable progress over time.

Overall, the concept of forging in LTAD encapsulates the holistic development of athletes, encompassing physical, mental, and emotional dimensions to help them reach their full potential and sustain success in their athletic endeavors.
